Democrats Leading House Effort to Block EPA Warming Regs

A trio of House legislators – two Democrats and one Republican – has introduced a bill to block the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN), Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) and Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) introduced the proposed legislation. The newly introduced bill follows similar legislation introduced by Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-ND).

A spate of recent scandals showing prominent global warming researchers working for or in conjunction with the United Nations hid, destroyed, and falsified scientific evidence on a number of global warming issues is emboldening scientists and legislators who have long questioned assertions that humans are creating a global warming crisis. With the Obama treasury department acknowledging that global warming legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last year would cost the average U.S. household roughly $3,000 each year, legislators in both parties are stepping forward to challenge the desirability of such costly efforts to address highly questionable climate speculation.

Legislators in both parties have also made it very clear that EPA is the wrong entity to be imposing global warming restrictions if action to address global warming becomes appropriate.

"I have no confidence that the EPA can regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act without doing serious damage to our economy," Peterson said on Tuesday. "Americans know we’re way too dependent on foreign oil and fossil fuels in this country--and I’ve worked hard to develop practical solutions to that problem--but Congress should be making these types of decisions, not unelected bureaucrats at the EPA."
