Speaking at a public forum Thursday evening, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) predicted the Arctic ocean will lose all its ice within five or 10 years. Here are Kerry’s exact words:
“The Arctic ice is disappearing faster than was predicted. And instead of waiting until 2030 or whenever it was to have an ice-free Arctic, we’re going to have one in five or 10 years.”
Before we even address Kerry’s ice-free prediction, let’s examine his prior assertion. “The Arctic ice is disappearing faster than was predicted,” claimed Kerry. Really? According to NASA satellite data, Arctic sea ice has grown by 25 percent since 2007.
Regarding Kerry’s prediction that the Arctic will be ice-free in five or 10 years, we finally have an alarmist prediction that lends itself to verification. John Kerry, here is a wager that I propose:
If the Arctic is ice-free at any time during the next five or 10 years, I will change my tune and become an ardent global warming alarmist. I will do everything in my power to influence public opinion that global warming is an imminent crisis. If, on the other hand, the Arctic does not become ice-free at any point in the next five or 10 years, you pledge to oppose global warming legislation in the U.S. Senate.
Is it a deal, Senator Kerry, or are you knowingly crying “Fire!” in a crowded theater for personal political gain?
