William M. Briggs is a statistical consultant whose research interests include prediction and forecast accuracy and usefulness; skill and cognitive biases in prediction; practical decision analysis; graphical data display; climate variability; and the philosophy of statistics and probability. He is a consultant to New York Methodist Hospital, where he teaches a course to emergency medicine and surgical residents in basic probability and statistics and consults on departmental research projects. In 2007, he was visiting professor of statistics in the Department of Mathematics at Central Michigan University; from 2003-2007 was assistant professor of statistics at Weill Medical College of Cornell University; and has been adjunct assistant professor of statistical science at Cornell University.
